According to the Balinese Legend, the Naga (NAH-gah, “dragon” in Balinese) lives high on top of one of Bali’s three volcanoes. By day he stands guard, protecting the people of Bali. In the evening, he dives from the volcano into the depths of the sea to visit his one true love, the pearl. In the morning, as he rises up from the sea to return to his volcano, the water cascading off his scales nourishes the rice fields and forests, bringing prosperity to the people and the land.
