John Hardy X Bamboo Village Trust

John Hardy is proud to support the Bamboo Village Trust in their mission to establish 200 Bamboo Villages in Bali and across the tropical belt by 2030.

The initiative provides communities with on-the-ground training in land restoration, bamboo propagation, cultivation, harvesting and enterprise—laying the foundation for a resilient, bamboo-based economy and long-term livelihoods in the region where our story began.

Preserving, Restoring, Empowering

Over the course of three years, approximately 2,000 bamboo seedlings will be propagated—1,000 to be transplanted into surrounding areas for forest restoration and future pole supply—1,000 to be retained within a nursery for long-term cultivation and food supply. Twelve tons of edible bamboo shoots will be harvested by year three.

Green Gold

With its rapid growth and versatility, bamboo offers a quick and reliable source of income, food, and high-quality construction material for housing. It can be transformed into goods like baskets, mats, and textiles—fueling a village-led artisanal economy.

Once established, bamboo can be harvested indefinitely—providing the village with a long-term economic backbone—while simultaneously delivering immense ecological benefits.

Bamboo is this magic, giant grass that stitches up the landscape, brings back the water and sucks carbon dioxide out of the air. It delivers ecosystem recovery, economic opportunity, and climate resilience—simultaneously.
