1975
Canadian artist John Hardy launches a small artisanal jewelry collective in Bali. Combining traditional techniques with modern design, the fledgling John Hardy brand is born.
1986
Our first ten years are spent mastering and refining time-honored Indonesian traditions of silver smithing, chain-weaving, granulation and cutwork.
1994
Our Icon Chain collection launches, reflecting centuries-old traditions of communal chain-weaving.
The Icon motif will go on to evolve into modern-day collections like Spear, Surf and our JH 50 collections.1996
Our Workshop and Design Studio is built in Bali out of low-impact, native materials—bamboo,adobe, thatch—amid 400 acres of rice paddiesand an organic permaculture farm.
2000
We introduce precious gemstones and color into our design language. From the beginning, we use only ethically sourced gemstones and conflict-free diamonds.
2002
Our first showroom and office opens in NYC.
2004
Our Kapal Bamboo Boutique is constructed in Bali out of bamboo, thatch and native grasses. It’s designed to “float” above the Subak (the sacred irrigation system that waters Bali’s rice fields).
2006
Our Naga Collection launches, bringing to life the Balinese legend of the water dragon.
2007
To offset our carbon footprint and empower local communities, we partner with climate activists andfarmers to plant bamboo seedlings. We will go on toplant over 1.5 million seedlings. To this day, we continueto support the Bamboo Village Trust initiative.
2011
We open doors in Hong Kong.
2013
We become a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC)—a global standard that evaluates supply chain, business ethics, labor and human rights and environmental performance.
2016
Our NYC Flagship store opens in Soho, on Prince Street.
2017
Our Asli collection launches—a modern abstraction of our heritage Icon chain, later brought back as our contemporary Surf Collection.
2021
We start running our production facilities with 100% renewable energy, substantiated through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates.
2022
Reed Krakoff joins as our Creative Chair.
Our Spear Collection debuts, marking a new, modern chapter for the brand.2024
Our Artisan Series launches—a limited seriesof signature John Hardy silhouettes elevatedto high jewelry status.
2025
We proudly celebrate our 50th anniversary with the launch of our JH 50 Collections.
